Products

Our Products

Yes — and we take this seriously. Our products are sourced from farms certified under NPOP (National Programme for Organic Production) India. This means the farms are inspected and certified by a third-party certifying body, and we hold transaction certificates for every consignment we procure.

What "certified organic" means for you:

  • No synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilisers used in farming
  • No GMO seeds or inputs
  • Traceability from farm to your doorstep
  • Independent third-party verification

We also send every batch for third-party lab testing for pesticide residues before it reaches you.

The bilona method is a traditional Ayurvedic process for making ghee. Milk from A2 Desi Gir cows is boiled, set into curd, and then hand-churned bi-directionally using a wooden churner called a bilona. The butter collected from this process is then slow-cooked into ghee.

This method differs from industrial ghee production where cream is directly separated and converted — bypassing the curd-churning step entirely. The bilona process is slower and yields less ghee per litre of milk, but it preserves natural nutrients, produces a more digestible product, and results in the characteristic grainy texture and deep aroma of true desi ghee.

Cold pressed oils are extracted by mechanically pressing seeds at low temperatures (below 50°C), without using heat or chemical solvents. This preserves the oil's natural nutrients, flavour, aroma, and colour.

Refined oils, by contrast, are extracted using high heat and chemical solvents (like hexane), then deodorised, bleached, and processed — stripping away most natural compounds in the process. Our cold pressed oils are unrefined, unbleached, and free from solvent extraction at every stage.

No. Every Earthen Story product is free from preservatives, additives, artificial colours, and artificial flavours. What you see on the label is exactly what's inside — nothing more.

This also means our products have a natural shelf life and should be stored correctly to maintain freshness. Please refer to the storage guidance on each product label.

Ghee: Yes — ghee has a high smoke point (~250°C) and is excellent for high-heat cooking, sautéing, and frying.

Cold pressed oils: Best suited for medium-heat cooking, tempering, and salad dressings. For deep frying at very high temperatures, ghee or coconut oil are better choices due to their stability.

Coconut oil: Suitable for medium to high heat. Our cold pressed coconut oil has a smoke point of approximately 175°C.

Quality

Sourcing & Quality

Every batch of our products is tested by an independent, accredited third-party laboratory for over 250 pesticide compounds. We do this in addition to sourcing from certified organic farms — it's our extra layer of verification.

Lab test reports are available on our Lab Reports page. If you need a batch-specific report for a product you've purchased, write to us at contact@earthenstory.com with your order number.

Yes. We publish lab test reports on our Lab Reports page. These are updated regularly as new batches are tested.

If you need the specific report for a batch you've received, email us at contact@earthenstory.com with your order number and we'll share the relevant report.

This is completely normal for natural, unprocessed products. Unlike industrial products that are standardised through processing, our products retain natural variation from batch to batch — in colour, texture, and aroma — depending on the season, harvest, and farm.

For example: cold pressed groundnut oil may be darker or lighter depending on the variety of peanuts used. Ghee may appear more golden or more white based on the cows' diet and the season. Honey viscosity and colour vary by flower source and season. These variations are a sign of authenticity, not inconsistency.

Storage

Storage & Shelf Life

Store cold pressed oils in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the bottle tightly sealed after use. Avoid storing near a stove or in direct sunlight.

Cold pressed oils do not contain artificial antioxidants and should ideally be consumed within 6–9 months of manufacture. Refrigeration can extend shelf life but may cause temporary cloudiness or solidification (especially in coconut oil) — this is completely normal and the oil returns to its original state at room temperature.

No — pure ghee has very low moisture content and does not need refrigeration. Store it at room temperature in a clean, airtight container away from moisture and sunlight. Always use a dry spoon when scooping ghee to prevent contamination.

Our A2 bilona ghee typically has a shelf life of 12 months from manufacture when stored correctly. Refrigeration is optional and can extend shelf life further.

Yes, absolutely — crystallisation is a natural process in raw, unadulterated honey and is actually a sign of purity. Processed honeys are heated and filtered to prevent crystallisation, which also destroys beneficial enzymes and nutrients.

To return crystallised honey to a liquid state, simply place the jar in warm water (not boiling) for a few minutes. Avoid microwaving, as high heat damages the natural enzymes in raw honey.

Transfer flours and grains to an airtight container after opening to maintain freshness and prevent moisture absorption. Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.

Whole grain flours retain natural oils and have a shorter shelf life than refined flours — typically 3–6 months after opening. Refrigeration can extend this. Always check the best-before date on the label.
