Triphala is the most prescribed single formulation in Ayurvedic medicine - three fruits (amalaki, bibhitaki, haritaki) combined for their collective effect on digestion, detoxification, and elimination. Adding amla powder to triphala powder amplifies the vitamin C and antioxidant content significantly, while raw forest honey added below 40°C and a drop of bilona ghee provide the fat-soluble bioavailability enhancement that warm water alone cannot. Taking triphala in warm water first thing in the morning is one of the most universally recommended Ayurvedic daily practices - this cleansing drink honours that tradition while improving on it with amla's additional vitamin C. For the evening counterpart that balances the morning cleanse, the Ashwagandha Golden Milk completes the daily adaptogen protocol.
Ingredients
- ½ tsp Earthen Story Triphala Powder Shop ↗
- ¼ tsp Earthen Story Amla Powder Shop ↗
- 1 tsp Earthen Story Raw Forest Honey (added only when below 40°C) Shop ↗
- ¼ tsp Earthen Story A2 Gir Cow Bilona Ghee Shop ↗
- 200 ml warm water (not boiling - approximately 60°C)
Steps
- Bring water to approximately 60°C - warm enough to dissolve the powders but not boiling. Boiling water can degrade some of triphala's active compounds.
- Add triphala powder and amla powder to the warm water. Whisk or stir vigorously for 30 seconds until fully dissolved. Some fine particles may remain - this is normal.
- Add ghee and stir until it melts into the drink.
- Allow the drink to cool for 3 - 4 minutes until the temperature drops below 40°C.
- Add honey only after this cooling step. Stir gently.
- Drink on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning, at least 30 minutes before eating. Drink slowly.
Key Benefits
- Triphala for daily digestive cleansing and microbiome support Triphala powder contains tannins, gallic acid, and chebulic acid with documented prebiotic, anti-inflammatory, and digestive-motility effects. The microbiome-modulating effect of triphala is one of the most studied aspects of Ayurvedic medicine in modern research - daily use supports the gut ecosystem that influences mood, immunity, and metabolism.
- Amla powder for vitamin C density and antioxidant amplification Organic amla powder contains more vitamin C per gram than almost any other plant source - adding it to triphala doubles the antioxidant load of the preparation. Vitamin C deficiency is among the most common micronutrient gaps in urban India - this morning drink addresses it before the day has started.
- Bilona ghee and raw honey as bioavailability enhancers Bilona ghee in a warm herbal preparation is an Ayurvedic delivery mechanism called anupana - a carrier that improves the tissue penetration of fat-soluble herbal compounds. Raw forest honey added below 40°C acts as a second anupana, carrying water-soluble compounds to cellular level. Ayurvedic texts are specific about not heating honey - this recipe follows that guidance exactly.
