Ashwagandha Golden Milk - Adaptogen Night Drink

Warm milk with ashwagandha, turmeric, and raw honey. The Ayurvedic night drink that works with your body's stress response - not against it. Takes 5 minutes.

Prep Time 5 min
Servings 1 cup
Difficulty Easy

The idea behind golden milk is simple: warm fat helps the fat-soluble compounds in turmeric absorb, black pepper activates them, and the milk provides a vehicle that the body associates with rest. Adding organic ashwagandha powder takes this a step further - the root extract has decades of clinical research behind its effects on the HPA axis, the stress-response pathway, and cortisol levels. It is the 5-minute evening habit with the most science behind it of almost any food ritual you could build. For a morning counterpart that completes the full daily adaptogen protocol, the Triphala and Amla Morning Cleanser works in the same tradition of Ayurvedic daily rituals.

Ingredients

  • 250 ml full-fat milk (or oat/almond milk for dairy-free)
  • ½ tsp Earthen Story Ashwagandha Powder Shop ↗
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon powder
  • Pinch black pepper (essential for curcumin activation)
  • ½ tsp Earthen Story A2 Gir Cow Bilona Ghee - optional but improves absorption Shop ↗
  • 1 tsp Earthen Story Raw Forest Honey - added only after cooling below 40°C Shop ↗

Steps

  1. Heat milk in a small saucepan on medium-low until steaming but not boiling - approximately 65 - 70°C.
  2. Add ashwagandha powder, turmeric, cinnamon, and black pepper. Whisk or use a milk frother to incorporate fully and create a light foam.
  3. Add ghee if using and stir until melted.
  4. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 2 - 3 minutes until the temperature drops below 40°C.
  5. Add honey only after this cooling step - heating honey above 40°C destroys its live enzymes and beneficial compounds. Stir gently.
  6. Pour into a warmed cup and drink immediately. This drink is most effective taken 30 - 45 minutes before sleep.
