This is the Ayurvedic evening drink that does the work overnight. Shatavari powder - the tonic herb for hormonal balance and reproductive health - dissolves naturally into warm almond milk, and the seed powder topping of flax, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds adds omega-3, zinc, and magnesium to what is already a deeply nourishing drink. Mamra almond milk made fresh provides the richest fat base for the fat-soluble withanolide-like compounds in shatavari to dissolve into. Shatavari in warm milk is one of the most ancient Rasayana preparations in Ayurvedic medicine - the addition of a seed powder makes this a genuinely modern enhancement of that tradition. For the morning dry fruit powder that uses the same seed-and-nut philosophy as a dawn ritual, the Ghar Ka Nishasta is the complementary morning preparation.
Ingredients
- ½ tsp Earthen Story Shatavari Powder Shop ↗
- ¼ cup Earthen Story Mamra Almonds, soaked overnight Shop ↗
- 1 cup warm milk (or almond milk)
- 1 tsp seed powder mix: equal parts ground Earthen Story Flax Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, and Sunflower Seeds Shop ↗
- ¼ tsp cardamom powder
- ½ tsp raw honey or jaggery - optional
Steps
- For the seed powder: grind equal parts flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds in a spice grinder into a fine powder. Make in batches and store in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- Blend soaked, drained mamra almonds with warm milk for 60 seconds until completely smooth. Strain if desired for a silkier texture, or use as is for more fibre.
- Warm the almond milk to a comfortable drinking temperature - approximately 60°C.
- Add shatavari powder and cardamom. Whisk well until fully dissolved - shatavari can clump if added to cold milk.
- Pour into a cup and allow to cool slightly. Stir in honey or jaggery if using.
- Top with 1 teaspoon of the seed powder blend just before drinking. Stir once and drink slowly.
Key Benefits
- Shatavari for hormonal balance and reproductive health Shatavari powder contains steroidal saponins (shatavarins) with documented effects on oestrogen modulation, stress-related cortisol, and reproductive organ health. Shatavari in milk is one of the most consistently recommended Rasayana preparations across all major Ayurvedic texts - the fat in milk improves absorption of the fat-soluble active compounds.
- Three-seed powder for omega-3, zinc, and magnesium together Pumpkin seeds provide zinc; ground flax seeds provide ALA omega-3; sunflower seeds provide magnesium and vitamin E. All three minerals are commonly deficient in urban Indian diets - this seed powder addresses all three in a single teaspoon.
- Mamra almond milk for bioavailability enhancement Mamra badam milk provides the fat content needed for optimal absorption of shatavari's fat-soluble compounds. The combined effect of shatavari on the HPA axis and the omega-3 in flax seeds on neuroinflammation makes this drink genuinely supportive of the gut-brain connection - a functional drink in the truest sense.
