Most commercial trail mixes are held together by the weakest ingredients - salted cashews, sugar-coated raisins, and flavoured peanuts. This one is built from the best ingredients in the Earthen Story pantry: mamra almonds with their nutty richness, flax seeds with their omega-3, amla candy with its tangy immunity punch, and chaat masala to tie it all together with a flavour that makes you reach for another handful. Every ingredient in this mix is organic and traceable - the opposite of what a commercial trail mix label usually reveals. It takes ten minutes to make and lasts two weeks in a jar. For a seed-focused bar version that uses similar ingredients in a pressed format, the No-Bake Coconut Almond Bark is the same philosophy in a different form.
Ingredients
- ½ cup Earthen Story Mamra Almonds Shop ↗
- 2 tbsp Earthen Story Flax Seeds Shop ↗
- 8 - 10 pieces Earthen Story Amla Candy Chatpata, roughly broken Shop ↗
- 2 tbsp pumpkin seeds Shop ↗
- ½ tsp chaat masala
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Pinch Himalayan pink salt
- ½ tsp ghee or coconut oil - for light roasting
Steps
- Heat a dry pan on medium-low. Add mamra almonds and dry-roast for 4 - 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until they are warm and fragrant. They should not darken significantly - mamra almonds are best lightly roasted.
- Add pumpkin seeds to the same pan and roast for another 2 minutes until they begin to pop lightly.
- Add a half teaspoon of ghee or coconut oil and toss to coat the nuts and seeds lightly.
- Remove from heat. Immediately add chaat masala, black pepper, and salt, and toss well. The spices toast gently in the residual heat.
- Add flax seeds (no roasting needed - they are better raw for omega-3 preservation).
- Allow to cool completely, then add broken amla candy pieces and toss gently.
- Store in an airtight jar at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
Key Benefits
- Mamra almonds for concentrated vitamin E and healthy fats The higher oil content of mamra badam makes them a richer source of vitamin E per serving than California almonds. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes from oxidative damage - particularly relevant in a high-stress, high-screen desk environment.
- Amla candy for vitamin C and immune support Amla is the richest whole-food source of vitamin C in the Indian diet. The candy form makes it portable and snackable - each piece provides meaningful vitamin C alongside the tart, tangy flavour that makes this trail mix genuinely interesting. Vitamin C and vitamin E together form one of the most powerful antioxidant pairs in human nutrition - this trail mix delivers both in one handful.
- Flax seeds raw for intact omega-3 Organic flax seeds are added at the end without roasting to preserve their ALA omega-3 fatty acids. Heat degrades these fragile polyunsaturated fats - adding them cold to the warm trail mix is a small but nutritionally significant decision that most commercial products get completely wrong.
